Judge McShane just ruled in the Hennepin County case that was brought by
several bar/club owners to prevent the Hennepin County smoking ordinance
from going into effect. He did not issue a temporary restraining order
so the ordinance will go into effect in the very early hours of March 31
and bars and restaurants in Hennepin County will open smokefree on
Thurday, March 31.

Had McShane issued a TRO it would not have directly affected Ramsey
County but one could assume that a similar law suit would have been
filed in Ramsey had they prevailed in Hennepin.

Denying the TRO does not end the case, it only means that McShane felt
that the merit of the case was such that it was not likely to succeed
and there was no complelling reason to issue a temporary order.

So, the Thursday partying planned for 12:30 at Mai Village and 6:30 PM
at Boca Chica, Tavern on Grand, Queen Asian Buffet and Champps in New
Brighton are on. Call 651-646-3005 if you are interested in coming to
help celebrate.
