Michael, I happen to agree with Renee. Her point is that the DFL does more damage to its own than its opposition. There are so many DFLer's that hold purity tests for their candidates that the survivor of many endorsing conventions can't make it through the primary. Then, should the endorsed candidate lose in the primary, these supposed DFL supporters won't vote for the victor because they challenged the endorsed candidate. All you have to do is look at the comments made by various members of this forum. I have even heard liberals complain about the Democrats as being more interested in preserving its purity (my words) tests that they no longer are a viable progressive political opponent to the Republicans. First, a decent interval should be observed before one contradicts oneself. Second, as my first post on this topic made clear, the "disgusting habit" complained of was not in evidence. My ultimate point, just in case anybody missed it, was that the lack of support for Kelly at the 2005 precinct caucuses and ward conventions was total. For those who don't know, any subcaucus with enough support to send one delegate to the City Convention is viable. Nothing else is required. In Ward 3, if there were just three ward convention attendees willing to stand up for Kelly, he would have at least one delegate to the City Convention. No such subcaucus was formed (although we did have an "ANYBODY BUT KELLY" subcaucus). And this was in Ward 3, which narrowly went for Kelly over Benanav in the 2001 general election. What we are seeing here is from the grassroots.
