Gambling coming to the Twin Cities? Yep! It's about time that we put some real meaning into the phrase: "You betcha!"
It's seems that the "powers that be" are starting to realize that money must be raised to pay for essential city / state services and taxing the population isn't the way it's going to be done, so they are turning to so-called "vice". It's always have been my 2nd choice. Personally, I have advocated this for a long time. Unfortunately for me, I've always been ahead of the curve on this type of issue. In fact, gambling is, and always has been, a form of adult entertainment. Wagering has always been the world's 2nd oldest profession. Raising revenue with so-called "vice" is an excellent way to tax and at the same time provide non-family friendly entertainment for single adults. In fact, we really should expand on the idea. We already have PLENTY of "family friendly" entertainment venues, but nothing for single adults. Why not just do what Las Vegas has done? Put all the forms of adult entertainment into zones and expand the areas outwardly from the city every 5 years or so? (This would tend to keep start-up costs lower) Keep them out of the residential neighborhoods and away from other forms of business and tax the hell out of them? These businesses usually do an excellent job of policing themselves and wouldn't be an additional strain on the city budget because if they don't, they know full well what will come next: Rules, regulations and undercover police stings, which of course, is always bad for these types of businesses. In St. Marshmallow, we don't want to do anything that MIGHT be "bad for business" do we? Rowdy Russ Hanson. The Truth in St. Paul. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
