I'm sorry but count me as one opposed to using the open slot on the school
board for on the job training for someone who thinks they MIGHT like to be of
service to the City. Join your district council, sign up at your local school
to be on the site council, volunteer to be on one of a thousand task forces
that either the city or the school district has to be of service to the city.

This is an elected office that is going to be temporarily filled by appointment
of the school board. I encouraged everyone I know on the school board not to
appoint some one who would run for the seat this fall and I further encouraged
both Bill Finey and Gilbert de la O to put their names in for consideration.
Both of them were elected to the school board in the past and neither of them
were given the boot by the voters, both chose not to run for the office again.
I was thrilled to see that both of them put their names forward.

This isn't a game where one "has their shot" at serving the City. This is a
school board that is dealing with some of the worse budget issues in my
lifetime and they need seven people on the board who already know the
complexities of the district. This is no prize to be appointed to the school
board, this is facing an unpleasant set of options.

I urge the school board members who read this list to pick one of the two
candidates who will be able to be a part of the discussion and may help in
finding solutions. Please don't give me someone who thinks it would be FUN to
be on the School Board!
