Dear SPIF Participants:
As of this Friday, I hope to close the existing St. Paul Issues Forum.
We will reopen on Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week, using new software and with a new forum manager.
Yes, I'll be stepping down from the position of list manager to focus my energy on other projects. I'll still be involved with St. Paul E-Democracy, but the focus of my work will shift towards launching new E-Democracy projects in other cities, states, and even countries. I'll post more about this later in the week.
Michelle Fure (formerly know to some of you as Michelle Kibiger) will be taking over as temporary forum manager. She has left open the possibility of remaining in the position long term.
The other big change will be our new software. We will be moving to an opensource software product called Groupserver. E-Democracy.Org has been using Groupserver to host our new Issues Forums in the UK for about 2 months now. We think its ready for "prime time."
Some of the noticeable improvements you can expect with Groupserver:
1) 2 Posts per day will be automatically enforced
It will be impossible to post 3 times in a day.
(No more temptation).
2) Participant profiles on the web site (voluntary).
3) Links in every post to the posters online profile.
4) Links in every post to the archive of that
topic or discussion.
5) Ability to post via the web.
6) Easier to read archive - organized by topic.
7) And more..........For a number of technical reasons, we will be asking participants to move themselves to the new software (I'll be available to provide online or telephone support to those who need it).
Instructions on making the switch will follow in a separate email
Best wishes,
