On Wednesday, May 11th the City Council will consider a historic resolution for passage. The Equal Access Resolution will ask the City to move towards equal access and transparency in the awarding of of lucrative contracts that have for far too long benefited only white male owned businesses.

For example: in 2003 the city spent 95.3 million dollars with only 2.2% going to minority owned businesses, in 2004 it actually got worse with 95.6% being spent and an aybsymal/shameful 1.1% going to minority businesses.

The Equal Access resolution recommends 44 possible strategies for needed change. One of the most important recomendations is that there be a community driven examination of past adherence to civil rights and equal opportunity legislation and from there make changes. Randy, Denny and Susan are dead set against this. In Denny's words, "don't even look in the rear view mirror, focus on whats in front of us..." how convenienta and how incredibly ridiculous. Imagine this picture: forgive me your honor, don't consider my past criminal history, just believeme when i promisei won't do it in the future....( i'm not implying that theres anything criminal in the city's past behavior) but even if there was, how would the public redress the wrong, if it was purposely suppressed?

Lets insist on honesty and lets forge real change so we can actually walk the walk in the city of St. Paul.. Ann Carroll's Wellstone quote, which i cannot rembember verbatim, fits nicely right here. Please call you council person and tell them to vote wednesday for the EQUAL ACCESS RESOLUTION. People needing the wake up call probably include: Councilmember Montgomery at 266-8610 and Councilmember Dave Thune at 266-8620.

Please call me with any questions at 651.225.8778
