Thanks for the prompt response. Sorry but I do not quite understand what it 
means building an ancient 2.68. Could you please elaborate on that?

BTW: I am going to try to localize problem tomorrow by testing other 
executables and starting the executable with strace instead of attaching strace 
to it.
