Getting news out of people who've been de-homed by a hurricane is more
difficult than I thought.
My sister, who lives nearby, said many are in a sort of not thinking
clearly daze as they find the pieces of their lives and sort through
them trying to figure out how to re-arrange it all.

My son and his wife found an apartment in Clear Lake and are moving in
as I write this. The girls a little perplexed by a change in schools.
At least they have an address though I don't know what it is. I don't
know if it has electricity. I do know they no longer have a working
automobile.

His mother and her husband will move in with a local family from their
church. My ex works at the La Porte Branch Library and can receive
packages and has access to the internet from there. That's my main
point of contact with them (and my sister's cell phone).

My other ex put together packages of clothes for the girls and a slew
of art supplies and crafts projects. Her specialties. She's one of
those people that knows what size you wear and can define you by style
as she's being introduced. When we were dating 25 years ago, she
worked for GQ magazine. Now she works in East Hampton at a summer camp
for kids. (like Gweneth Paltrow's daughter type kids) She said she had
a lot of fun shopping clothes for my girls.

My sister boxed up school supplies for them. And Anne and I put
together a collection of stuffed animals, toiletries, little girl
cosmetics, toys, journals etc for them. All shipped to the La Porte
Library in care of ex #1.

I found out today that the birthday gifts I sent to the two youngest
girls remained intact. It was supposed to have arrived September 11,
which was the ten year old's birthday and also the day they had to
evacuate. The five year old's birthday was yesterday, the 22nd. The
twelve year old had a birthday May 13. You can see a photo composite
of them that I use for this years desktop picture here:

I suggested your recommendation of accepting donations through a PaPal
account. They either don't know what that is (I've tried to explain)
or are suspicious of it (might empty the account instead of add to it)
or have an issue with the accepting help from strangers. At any rate,
I put it out there.
