I think the subprime meltdown is only partly to blame. There's several trillion 
dollars in offshore hedge fund accounts that remain beyond the reach of our 
regulators. We need to rein them in.

If that's what the Democrats mean when they blame the crisis on 
"de-regualtion," then I hope they flesh that out in more detail. Unfortunately, 
that is unlikely to happen until after the election. No sense speaking the 
truth now when it could help McCain and the Republicans.
