One of the bigger list servers I manage lists upon is undergoing a major shift and although I'm only an underling, I'll be directly affected by the decisions made, so I'm looking for input on the two MTAs in question. We're going to drop Lyris, which is extremely flexible and extensible, and go to either Postfix or Exim. The debate is ongoing; the ilsts are many, with many members in common, typical list memberships run into the 800 - 3000 range, and we need to have a great deal of moderation control. Presently we use home-rolled apps to do quick user-focused tweaks, such as moderation count adjustments, and - most critically - one-click message moderations from within Eudora, Mail, Thunderbird and a few others I can't think of at the moment. Another incredibly helpful feature we have that's web-based in Lyris, and we really really need is subject-line and content moderation, since almost all of these lists are production lists for specific topics, and that's how we keep 'em on topic, and weed out the spammers, trolls, and dinglefutz's.
