That said, there's no real indication that the R's base has any intention of sharing power with someone who is a moderate, so a Republican Howard Dean is unlikely. Right now the base is turning on McCain, and it's pretty clear from the talk among the 30%-ers that, as Kevin Drum put it "...the defenestrations have begun." As astounding as it might seem, I'm not sure that this election cycle is the apex of the Republican capitulation to the wingnut right. They're already sowing the ground for a concentrated anti-obama underground like they did to Clinton. I'll not be surprised to see some idiot try to write a book about how Hillary Clinton had Vince Foster killed by Barack Obama and a crack team of Acorn VoteFraudNinjas. They're priming the Great Right-Wing Wurlitzer to spew it's usual lies and innuendo because it's all they know.
