I got it handed back to me the other day when I slowly drove in reverse down a long narrow driveway. An elderly gentleman gave me a demonstration on how to properly shake his cane at someone. 1.) shuffling gait and slight hunched posture. 2.) don't wait for any cars, they won't wait for you; just step right out into the crosswalk. 3.) keep a wary eye 4.) at first notice of any vehicle moving in your direction stop all movement. 5.) Set yourself to balance on two feet, no cane. 6.) lift cane slowly by the handle end 7.) aim cane like a gun at driver of vehicle moving in your direction 8.) wobble the cane moving the handle end slightly back and forth 8 -a.) when done properly the pivot point of the wobble should be in the center of its length. 8 -a.) a kind of bleary eyed contact will improve the performance effectiveness. 9.) while continuing the wobbly motion set yourself to continue shuffling gait. 10.) attempt to wobble and shuffle simultaneously until the crossing is complete. 11.) shuffle around to face the driver while continuing to wobble the cane. 12.) as the driver and vehicle pass in the distance look to anyone nearby and mutter something about "young people" --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "StrataList-OT" group.
