Uhhh, wow. We've been checking everything that goes through our server
for a couple years now, precisely because of that problem.
Just as a public info notice, this is what the problem looks like from
a mail admin's perspective...
This is last night's daily report frorm our mail scanning system.
Bottom line, just 3% of all mail sent to our domain in the previous 24
hours was actually delivered to people's inboxes.
The first three are Realtime Blacklist blocks against known spam
sources. That alone delete 96% of all email sent to us.
Even if the apparent 'From' line is internal, it has to actually
arrive from outside our network, unless it's a local host infected
with malware. I suspect there would be a lot more of those on an ISP's
residential network than there are here, where we can keep tighter
control on what AV software is run, etc.
