There there, Francis, you're arguing with the voices in your head again. All 
that would be terrible, if it was in *any way* true.

"You have to pay for wildland firefighting, which means sometimes you have to 
raise taxes" is the policy I'm championing. The results of that policy are "You 
can successfully fight fires". Pretty easy to defend.

 The results of the opposing policy ("Never raise taxes, cut gummint spending. 
Who needs volcano monitoring? Help me Help me mr President, my state is burning 
to ashes and I thought cutting taxes was more important than funding 
firefighters!") is the one YOU are defending.
