While not exactly about the crusades, "Secret Societies of the Middle Ages" by Thomas Keightley has some interesting insight on affairs. It discusses, Templars, Assasins & such. It is written in the mid/early 1800s, so it has some different biases than modern works. The forward by Wasserman (?) is interesting, too. An Antioch grad, he was in the forefront of electronic publishing, he's a neo-con & occultist & is use of the term islamo-fascism is the earliest I have seen.
