So now we have Hayek AND Rand both becoming glaring hypocrites in their dotage.

At that time (as now), Charles Koch was one of the richest men in the world. At 
that time, (as now) he was a free market, libertarian ideologue.

Why didn't he just offer to pay for his 'founding scholar's' insurance, either 
personally or through the foundation he was inviting Hayek to speak to?

As the linked Nation article points out, of course it was because he'd found a 
free government program to do it for him, allowing him to continue his crusade 
of selfishness.
