Like many, I'm on an austerity budget, and struggling to find ways to keep my old house warm enough to be livable in the winter. The annual draft-hunting expedition with caulking gun, draft-excluders and extra insulation help, but there's no way I can afford to keep the furnace running with 10 ft ceilings, and the wood stove only heats the downstairs area.
This article is great food for thought. I wound up buying a different foot warmer, since the dog bed warmer listed had so many complaints of electrical faults. Wearing a jacket, a hat and long-johns under layered clothes are effective in the house, but the office is too far from the stove to stay warm enough to keep working without freezing hands. My current set up with a makeshift kotatsu, blanket over the chair, and foot warmer are pretty effective so far. It's about 55F in here, and as long as I warm up my fingers in my pockets every so often, I'm pretty cozy. http://www.richsoil.com/electric-heat.jsp -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "StrataList-OT" group.
