..watching movies and petting the dogs to keep them calm, since the assholes who rule our state decided that we just couldn't POSSIBLY live without legal fireworks, so all the dogs in the neighborhood are freaking because yahoos are firing the things off like it's a goddam Kandahar firefight, starting with test fires and ranging shots at 8PM...
Watched three last night, following are my two-cent reviews, worth what yah pay for 'em The Mechanic, the remake. Not bad for a mindless Jason Statham actioner...reasonably well plotted, pretty tightly filmed, efficient use of many explosions and automatic weapons, marred by a predictable ending, sadly. Must find and watch the original, I've not seen it in many many years. Monsters <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/> Much better. The immigration analogy is pretty thick in places, but it's a good low-key sf/horror flick, that builds in tension really well to a scary 'don't let the monster catch your scent' ending. It's seriously frightening with nothing more than half-glimpsed shadows and distant explosions for the most part. Definitely worthwhile. Rango <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1192628/> This was excellent, easily stands up to most Pixar films. Amazing animation, and worth watching more than once to tot up all the ILM (and other cinematic) in-jokes.
