An article in WIRED describes reverse image search. http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Figure_Out_Where_a_Photo_Originated I installed the extension for Chrome and it works pretty well. Most of the "similar images" found seem to have to do with similar colors but I guess, what else have you got to work with? I have to admit it does narrow down the composition a bit too and if the image has a face in it, the extension seems to recognize that. Finally, a search tool that artists can use.
