It's not just the waters down thee that have been befouled. A few months ago on Google maps I checked out the property in Louisiana where my grandmother lived. I was confused by recent additions. Pretty easy to locate the house since it's a one street town. But when I switched to satellite view all I saw were white rectangles in orderly rows that covered acres and acres of what had been peaceful farmland (with a few oil wells). Switch to street view and do a drive by. It turns out to be a very lucrative parking lot for someone (grandparents and all direct relatives now long gone). The new owners turned Lottie, LA into a FEMA Trailer junkyard. A local newspaper suggested the profit motive as the current owners are being paid some $80,000 per month for 450 acres of aluminum siding and cheap insulation. The Federal Gov't foots the bill and I doubt it's being repaid by BP. But what do I know? Maybe they're stand up guys.
