It talks about critical thinking and the scientific method and how important it is to apply those concepts to all aspects of life. The book is apolitical until the last two chapters then it discusses the importance of those concepts in maintaining freedom and democracy.
I enjoyed reading it and I tend to agree with Sagan's views. However, I came to the opinion that he is preaching to the choir in that the people I see as most likely to read the book in the first place are those who would already tend to have those views.
