Neat ideas. You gotta be careful with the pallets things, though. some are made of treated wood, and that shit can be toxic,especially if you get pallets form places with lax laws about such things and they use arsenic and such. Also, use plastic rain gutters not galvanized. No zinc contamination and they don't rust out (since you have to drill through the galvanization to put in the drain holes.) I've grown "herbs in the cinderblocks" things myself...had chives growing for years in the cinderblocks holding up an old sink that I grew parsley in.
