I saw the title and it reminded me of our old Peugeot 504 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Peugeot_504_saloon.jpg> which had a wonky starter circuit, I would often have to get out and short a big-ass screwdriver across the relay terminals to get it to turn over.
