She was planning on running again for Gov, but because she served more than
half of Janet Napolitano's term after Janet went to DHS, the court said she's
plainly termed out, she doesn't look good for being anything but an
Ex-governor, so she did the math and realized she could either fight expanding
Medicare, get a shitload of really needed money from the feds (we passed a
voter prop a number of years ago forcing the state to cover all adults under a
certain multiplier of the poverty level with AHCCCS, which is Az's medicare
vehicle.) or preside, as her last act of office, massively screwing over the
state financially.

Jan, in a fit of sanity and comprehension of modern math went 'Well hell, if
the Feds are gonna give us the money, we'd be stupid not to do this!'.

The Lege has played games with AHCCCS the last few years, cutting a whole bunch
of people off, and the state Supreme Court just ruled that 'Nuh UH! Homie can't
play that game!' and so they're going to have to fund a huge expansion of
health care one way or the other.

Remarkably, last week the State Senate rebelled against the Senate Majority
leader, who's a teabagger nutjob, and six or so Republicans voted with the
entire Dem delegation in the senate to pass the medicare expansion.

The House, naturally, since it's composed of a minority of Dems and a majority
of poo-flingers are trying to gum up the works. Brewer found her spine after
carefully hiding it for seven years, and is making good on her threats to veto
everything that comes her way until they give her Medicare expansion.

She's vetoed several bills, but so far most of them have been 'Oh HAIL NO!'
bills that would never actually see the light of day, like SB1718 (iirc) which
is 'Religious Freedumb means I can disregard any law whatsoever if I think
Jeebus would disapprove, and I don't have to be a church either because my
religulous freedumb is more important than my slav, err, "employees" stupid
little fake religulous freedumb!'.

(Surprise surprise, it's all about those lady parts, and their insatiable
desire for contraception!)

Also I love how TPM says 'growing threats of retribution', way to understate
the case:

"Nine lawmakers, including [House Speaker] Tobin, received an e-mail that
begins, “Please kill SB1492, the Medicaid Expansion Act.” It then quotes the
Second Amendment and provides a script to be followed as a defense for shooting
someone."

As they sow, so shall they find out that the Bugfuck Crazy cannot be controlled.
