That half-mile and hour is not constant; fires can race uphill faster than an 
unencumbered man can run. The newspaper article in today's paper was sketchy on 
the details of the terrain, but as far as I have found they got caught by a 
sudden shift in the wind; these were all locals, they knew the terrain well.
