Only if you're quaint enough to consider defense spending to actually be about 
'defense'. In the US it's mainly about transferring taxpayer dollars to the 
shareholders of defense industries. 

This is why we get things like the F35, which is ghastly over budget, and will 
never actually do what it is claimed it will do, but damned if the primary 
constractor hasn't managed to get some sort of subcontractor funded in 45 
states, which makes it entirely unkillable, politically.

Of course as a 'loyal' ally, you guys are gonna get arm-twisted into buying 
some. They're already howling in Canadastan about having to buy some, because 
of the cost.
