This is what I think the Teddy and the Batshit Chorus's end game is: Fail to pass a debt limit, force a default and wait for Obama to either capitulate, or take some other route out of the Kobayashi Maru scenario he's in: 1) The 14th Amendment says that the debts of the US must be honored. 2) The Constitution says that Congress may appropriate money to pay for shit. 3) Current law states that the President cannot simply not fund things that Congress appropriates money for. Otherwise Boosh could have simply defunded any agency he didn't like. "EPA, you get zero dollars this fiscal year. Everyone's fired, turn off the lights." If Congress appropriates, it must be spent. (within limits, but even so I've been there when the end of the fiscal year came along and suddenly we have to spend a bunch of money, because it was appropriated.) 4) The debt limit law says that The Treasury cannot issue bonds to pay for already appropriated money if Congress doesn't raise the debt limit.* So Congress overspent, won't let us borrow more money, and the President gets to decide which of those three laws or constitutional amendments he has to break to comply with the other two. INPEACH!!!!Eleventy!!11 I expect they have the articles of impeachment already drawn up, just specifying which of the laws they're going to claim that Obama violated. Impeachment hasn't got a chance in hell of making it though the Senate, but will completely gum up the works for a year or more. The R's who were all completely convinced that Mitt was winning by a landlslide, right up until he lost in one, are convinced this will get the American people on their side so they can take over the Senate in 2014 with a veto-proof majority, even though that is a mathematical impossibility and win an even bigger majority in the House.
