That whole area of Marin County is a hotbed of bicycle experimentation. Periodically one sees all kinds of weird configurations of two wheeled things. My wife used to work in Sausalito on Gate Five Road at a company whose offices were nestled in among those warehouse shops. Down the street is a huge building with almost a hundred artists studios. Next door was company that made and sold magic tricks, and another that made and sold custom cakes and pastries of the unbelievably good variety. There is a guy who repaired Ferraris and anything Italian and American muscle cars; "Could you move that Shelby Cobra a little closer to the curb?". In another direction was a little shop that made remote controlled electric skateboards. Everything and anything to do with boat building and repair. Entrepreneurs of the build-it-myself variety were everywhere! Next town up was Mill Valley where we lived until August 8 this year. It is named from being the mill town in the valley facing San Francisco of Mount Tamalpais. Not a huge mountain (2750 feet) , but the place where dem krezzy kidz used to race their reinforced bikes across and down the mountain. So it is thought of as the birthplace of the now ubiquitous mountain bike. Someone is building what purports to be a pretty nice bicycle museum nearby because of this history. It was really a very interesting place to live. Now my wife's work has taken us an hour north, to Santa Rosa so I have the wine country to explore in my old age. Every year on my birthday I'd walk out the front door and hike to the top of Mount Tam and come back in about six hours (old guy pace). Our new house has an old swimming pool which is an exercise I recommend for all old people.
