It doesn't work like that. At most, they can track devices or *maybe* applications that try to connect and have a rough location, based on the location of the WAP. Any system with an IP address already is not trying to connect. When your device shows you what WiFi is available that's based on a passive reception of broadcast SSID's in range. There's no communication between your device and the WAP unless you attempt to connect. They certainly cannot tell what applications you downloaded if you never connect to their network. If you do connect to their network, well, network owners can do all sort of things; which is why you shouldn't be connecting promiscuously to all those networks. -- Bruce Johnson "Wherever you go, there you are."
