We are migrating from a sane email server (IMAP+Dovecot) to MS Exchange, which
I now firmly believe was designed by the folks who Terry Gilliam thought were
too extreme and weird for his movie 'Brazil'.
Problem:
Someone's secretary cannot access her boss' calendar, which has been shared. I
watched him do it, I shared mine in the exact same way and she CAN find mine.
Solution: "Oh you have to add it via 'add from address book'", not 'add shared
calendar' (even though my calendar, which I shared in the exact same way, using
the exact same program, shows up under 'shared calendars')
Ooookay. So before I go, I make sure I can do it, so I can show her (She is, of
course, using Outlook on a PC, her boss uses a Mac, so of course the suspicion
is that somehow the dirty hippie juice from his Mac got all over the nice clean
exchange system).
NO problem, I pull up the address book, search for 'Murphy' and get her boss
and the other guy named Murphy in the college.
Confidently go to her desk and show her annnnnd...only one Murphy shows up. The
wrong one.
Eventually using the Advanced search function we find the right one, and she
can now see his calendar.
Puzzled, I come in and ask the exchange guru we just hired.
"Oh, it's because her local copy of the global address book hasn't downloaded
the latest version yet. You can fix that, just go to 'Send and Receive > Send
and Receive Groups >Download Address Book'"
Of COURSE! That's why we couldn't find his *CALENDAR*, it was because of the
Send and Receive Groups thing!
do while (StillConcious){Head>Desk}
