Jim Wright went off a lil this morning, while talking about the latest blog post http://www.stonekettle.com/2014/12/the-road-to-hell.html
Jim Wright: It amuses me when I hear the phrase "moral relativism" - and since that phrase appeared here at the same time it appeared in comments on Stonekettle Station, I'm even more amused. Morals ARE relative. Morals by definition cannot be absolute. Morals cannot be inflexible doctrine handed down from upon high. Morals can not depend from religion. Can not. God does not confer morality. Morals are personal decisions, ways of thinking, and personal actions. What is moral for me may not be moral for you. What is moral in one age or one society may not be moral in another. What is moral in one circumstance may not be moral in a difference situation. Example: the Bible says unambiguously "Thous Shall NOT kill." But immediately, immediately, even the most devout believer starts looking for a loophole, "Oh, yeah, not kill, what that really means is 'not MURDER.' See, murder, that's different from other kinds of killing. So killing is okay, but not murder murder." Killing another human being, immoral sometimes, not others. Can't just murder your neighbor, but an enemy on the battlefield, that's okay with Jesus, kill away. Now, let's talk about what the bible says about the morality of rape. Or slavery. Morals ARE always relative and manmade. They don't come from any god. That's a fiction religious people tell themselves to make themselves feel superior to others. I call Shenanigans on divine absolute morality. It's bullshit. The guy who whacked every first born child of Egypt or drowned the world in a fit of anger or commanded his minions to sacrifice their children on stone altars or sends hurricanes to destroy entire cities because he doesn't like gay people doesn't get to dictate morality to me.
