Resolution: Fixed
This has been fixed. Textareas will now add a leading newline character (which
will get eaten by the browser) in all cases except when the value being output
is derived from the body content of the textarea. The latter exclusion is done
so additional newlines aren't added when folks write things like:
<stripes:textarea>
This is in a textarea
</stripes:textarea>
in which case there is already an extraneous leading newline.
