The rule is that nothing in the default configuration depends on  
Spring, so the default type converter factory doesn't inject spring  
beans.

However, all the code that does injection is generic and can be  
invoked as:
     SpringHelper.injectBeans(injectee, servletContext);

If you override the getInstance() method in  
DefaultTypeConverterFactory you can grab the ServletContext via  
getConfiguration().getServletContext().

I'd be happy to check in a SpringTypeConverterFactory if you wanted  
to put it together  :)
