Generating large option lists takes long time

I'm generating 8 option lists using the stripes:options-collection tag.
The lists contain temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees celsius in steps of 0,5
(which makes it 250 options per select)
Generating this page takes 5.5 - 6.5 seconds.
This is on my dev machine. 2 x 2.0 GHz with windows XP.
I'll add a comment later with the times using my 4 x 1.8GHz linux server.
