Remi VANKEISBELCK commented on STS-766:
---------------------------------------
I disagree : for example I don't use the same IDEA setting storage than the
commited one. I'm using directory based.
Examples are numerous (paths, settings, touched files that conflict etc.).
It's kind of a common practice to exclude IDE files from source control, an
dleave only what you need to build.
Oh yeah, and you need no maven plugin in your ide :
> mvn eclipse:eclipse (or idea:idea - but IDEA has built-in maven support)
this creates the eclipse project ready for import in your workspace.
Anyway it's not a major issue, I can live with it.
For the "maven movement" : you obviously depend on your build system. It's not
a "linkage" dependency, but ant or maven or your own scripts, you need
something to build. I've been working a lot with ant and maven on enormous
projects and on smaller ones, and maven wins in every case. Just the transitive
deps are a feature that makes maven worth learning and using.
Last, maven uses standard paradigms and layouts etc. People who don't know OUR
build would understand it easily if it was maven. With ant, you need to
understand how it's been used, it's always specific to the project. I guess
this kind of "convention over configuration" thing applies nicely to Stripes :P

> Commited project files (eclipse/idea) are annoying. They should be ignored
> from source control IMO, especially if there is a maven build : both IDEA and
> eclipse now can handle import from pom.xml.
