Indeed there are cached files of JSPs in glassfish.  But the code that 
is executing is not invoking any JSP (yet).
Not so much with classes I would say... because the WAR is exploded and 
when it gets undeployed the folder is deleted.

Indeed.  In any event.  To make things dirt simple I deleted my entire 
glassfish folder and unpacked a fresh copy.
Deployed the application and voila the "same" exception.

Marcus - what does that mean?  The fully qualified class file name is 
"clearly" the "same" as the NameActionResolver.
So how could it belong to a different source?

Also keep in mind this works 100% fine in 1.5.3(.1).

Me too.  I can't continue to spend a huge amount of time on this.  I 
might just have to stick to 1.5.3.1 which is unfortunate as I need to 
test the nested layouts that I reported as being broken in 1.5.4 and we 
all want to see this Snaphot released ASAP... but obviously released 
working... .
