Hi guys, after a year or so in commercial software development, I feel i have
had some realisations i will like to share with you.
It's how we can become Industry Leading professionals in our areas of choice.
1. Get Certified(Specialize)
One thing I have realised is the fact that, a being a graduate is the first
step to entering the club of industry leading professionals. But since that is
a requirement to joining the club, you an be pretty sure that most of the
people in the club are already graduates. But to stand out, you need to be
specialised in sth unique. You dont have to hold a Phd to be recognised. U have
to be the point of reference by specialising in sth. This means you can do
diploma's in special areas within the industry that will give u the chance to
stand out amoungs them.
2. Join a Professional Association
Professional associations help in gaining respect and getting to know more
people in the industry, getting to know someone who know someone who know
someone. This also helps in getting out of your domain into the international
aren. My recommendation is just use some of your salary to register for IEEE
associate member(not student).
3.Attend Conferences
Conferences also help in learning new industry patterns and options as well as
give you the platform to identify with the community. You can even make
presentations by writing papers in your area of expertise. These help in
boosting yorur knowledge. Dont forget, they will also make ur CV more
professional
4.last but not the least, Keep studying. The fact that you are out of school
does not mean that is the end. Get updated with new developments as they help u
in sounding more abreast even if you dont know anything about it.BTW( one guy
here got a job because he could use the technology terms related to the kind of
stuff we do here. After a week, we realised, it was all mouth talk, but he has
still been given the chance to prove himself). It might work for u.
