If you're using Windows, take a look at  http://www.badboy.com.au Badboy . 
You can use it to record tests and it will do stress testing itself using
your recording, or it will export the script in JMeter format and then you
can use JMeter to do it (but without tedious setting up / configuring of
JMeter).  Whichever way you go, it's easier than using JMeter on its own.
