Can't speak for anyone else, but my enthusiasm has certainly not waned. In
fact I am more pleased than ever to see Stripes alive and kicking thanks to
Ben's efforts and those who are helping Ben out.

Freddy: "SO, how come Ben still has to take on all the workload?" Answer: He
doesn't. Though certainly at the moment he is the most qualified to do bug
fixes, feature enhancements, etc and keep things moving forward. As much as I
am still interested in becoming a Stripes contributor, it is still unknown (to
me at least) how to do so in a productive capacity.

      - Can't submit bug reports (still a former Stripes user)
      - Don't know what bugs/features/tasks are slated for upcoming releases
(i.e. 1.5.5 and beyond)
            - What is the estimated level of difficulty and amount of effort
involved to complete tasks scheduled for a given release? This is crucial in
determining which tasks would be appropriate to tackle for someone who is
looking at the Stripes codebase for the first time
      - What is the process (if there is one) for ensuring any code written
adheres to the existing design, coding standards, and most importantly keeps
framework user satisfaction high, submitting code patches, getting them tested,
making sure the patch fixes the intended bug or satisfies the feature
requirements, while also having some comfort level about the patch not breaking
existing functionality elsewhere in the framework?
      - Contributors need to communicate and coordinate with Ben to get things
done. Which methods of communication would Ben prefer contributors use outside
of the mailing list (e.g. email, IM, IRC, etc)?

In addition to the above points, there are also higher priority things in my
life than Stripes. I would tend to think this is generally the case for most
open source developers. Time and effort are given away for free, after all.
The fact I don't have a suitable computer outside of work to develop with at
the moment also complicates things a bit.

Subject: Re: [Stripes-users] 1.5.5 Release

To be fair, I am getting more help from some people, like Scott Archer, Rick
Grashel and Timothy Stone. (Forgive me if I've forgotten anyone.) And I'm not
sure if it's just coincidence, but the bug reports have been much better
lately. People are providing sample code and are much more involved in
debugging and testing. But yes, the enthusiasm of a few months ago fizzled
rather quickly, as it tends to do.

Forgive me if I missed something, and I don't mean to cause any trouble, but I
need to ask: what happened to all the "up in arms" from a few months ago where
a bunch of enthusiasts wanted to help out with Stripes? People were saying
"please let us in, we want to help"? People wanted to help out to make Stripes
advance. SO, how come Ben still has to take on all the workload? Doesn't seem
fair..

Just asking..

Nathan, I've finished all but two of the remaining 1.5.5 issues plus one or two
more that hadn't been scheduled yet. The remaining two will likely get pushed
to the next release so 1.5.5 is pretty much ready to roll.

As the guy who does most of the coding and most of the work related to
releases, when a release rolls out is really dependent on when I can find time
to work on it. I've been very busy the last few weeks and haven't had time to
finish up what I wanted done for 1.5.5. I never commit to a release date
because there are many things in my life that have higher priority than
Stripes. As such things related to Stripes tend to suffer delays when more
important things crop up that I have to handle.

It's great to hear you're using Stripes in your sample app! That kind of
support from another popular framework can only help :)

Look for 1.5.5 to be released in the next few days.

Any word on this. I would really like to see the team take a more
release early and release often approach on Stripes. So far there are
12 resolved issues scheduled for the 1.5.5 release. That is enough in
my book to warrant a release. How about we push the remaining 6 to
1.5.6?

I would just love to get off the snapshot build and make make maven
and my team happy :)

Thanks for the hard work.

PS we just changes our sample app on MyBatis.org to use Stripes! Man
I love this framework!
