Thanks for the response.  I now have a slightly clearer understanding
of how the project relate.  On a related note, have you looked at the
J2EE Connector specification and how it relates to Struts?

In addition to backend connectivity, it the specification discusses the
interaction between JSP's, Servlets, Applications and the server.
