I don't believe that making this change would be appropriate for Struts 1.1 (and probably not for 1.2), but IMHO it's fair game to consider for 2.0. I've been looking in to the proxy APIs that were added in JDK 1.3, and you can do some *very* interesting things with them. It would probably also be wise to ensure that all framework objects in 2.0 have consistent factory-based mechanisms to instantiate instances.
