client side validation strips off back-slashes in user defined variables in 
validation.xml

But even if alert interprets back slashes, it is already doubled in the html 
file so it should have at least one back slash left. Besides, the mask is not 
doing what it is supposed to do, but it is OK with struts own mask function 
that has the regexp object created even at the html file so it does not rely on 
the string passed intact.
