If there are no objections on technical grounds, I would favor adding it. You can do this sort of thing with rewrite, but it's clumsy and counter-intuitive.

The argument may have had something to do with JSTL, but I think we are past that now. Since a large segment of the Struts Community is using the original tags, it's our job to do what we can to help.
