add to CVS avail list?

So, just to dip my toe in, I tried to commit a change to 
volunteers.xml and got this message:

% cvs commit -m "add my name, test my CVS write access!" xdocs/volunteers.xml
cvs [server aborted]: "commit" requires write access to the repository
Can someone with "the power" add me to the list?
