i am currently trying to decide what logging framework to use with my tomcat/struts application.

Does your Form overload the setter methods? I.e. do you have two different setter methods, for instance one that takes an integer and one that take a string as the argument? I had this problem and it solved itself when I got rid of the overloaded setter.
