Hi John,

The server here setup is a little odd:
There is a single development server to which you have full access via a samba share.
When it comes to production, your site is effectively war'ed and redployed
automatically to a server farm - over which you have no control whatsoever. This is
great for static sites as it takes care of load balancing, failover etc.

The site will function as a team site, including: news, a document repository etc. for
all the constituent parts of my group. As such the content will be ever expanding.

There will be many administrators (one per product group I guess) that will have
access to add new pages to the site using an on-line wizard-style tool that I will
write. It will be kind of like a Wiki, but a lot more controlled.

Without a content wizard, administrators would need access to the development server
which is more control than we want to allow.

I hope that helps.

Thanks, Paul

I think a lot depends on what you mean by "update/add to the content of
the website dynamically". Are you talking about updating content as a
site administrator or as a regular user (i.e. regular user process for
your application).

Please provide a little more information about this so I can understand
your problem better.

Thanks.

Subject: Dynamic assignment of tiles

Dear All,

I am working on an intranet website using struts/tiles. Due to server
restrictions write access is not allowed to the disk from which content
is
served. In order to update/add to the content of the website dynamically
I
need to change the tileDefinitions.xml file, which is obviously not
possible.

My only solution so far is to write my own version of the
org.apache.struts.tiles.xmlDefinition package to access a database
instead
- essentially create a TilesDefinitionFactory which reads the
definitions
from a database.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or alternatives?

Paul

PS my first posting here, wasn't sure if this was a user problem or a
dev
problem.
