(Notice how no one ever defends American beer!)

Hey, now.... there's plenty of excellent American beer; I don't know how much of it gets exported, but c'mon over and check 'em out.

Several good breweries (like Anchor or Sierra Nevada) have distribution in all major cities, and there are good regional breweries everywhere. In the Great Lakes region, there's the inestimable Bell's Brewing -- (Bell's Amber, mmmm....) To be honest, I'm not overwhelmed by Chicago's local breweries (Goose Island, Berghoff), but they're not junk. We're lucky here to have Rogue imported from Oregon to most of our decent liquor stores. I'm sure folks in other places have local favorites they'll be defending...

Here's a nice listing of American beers from one of Chicago's best merchants: http://www.samswine.com/beer/search_beer_results.asp?country=USA
