I'm not sure of the performance issues related to this. And i don't thing anyones done the work for you already so you'll have to go and read some stuff. All I can tell you is that my cousin works with someone who uses this technique, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes.
Perhaps extending tiles action mightn't be that correct where a servlet that generated the defs and puts them into the app context might be better, but i really don't know.
