Yes, usually I fire up Xephyr. I've hung X one too many times :). If
I'm feeling brave or lazy i'll use contrib/stumpwm-mode.el and load
the code into my main image.

When running stumpwm in xephyr I use slime. Once I'm happy with the
stability of my changes I'll run the reload command in my main image.
