It's a lot worse for me... stumpwm thinks I want to send a command with most keys I press (with most keys in the middle row and some others) and says e.g. "a not bound". It's so bad I can't even type xmodmap or anything, so I reverted to jli's last commit. If you really need some debugging output from that I think I might be able to manage from a screen session attached a second time on my virtual console (and maybe emacsclient -t with slime in that same screen) but it's a little bit of a hassle. Btw. an observation I just made is that (in f4fd30db359b97d02bf1f43431d059167f24cf5a ) the prompt blinks briefly whenever I press AltGr. If I manually add ISO_Level3_Shift to mod5, as you suggested, the blinking disappears, but I can't enter characters shifted with it on the prompt either, e.g. instead of '\' (backslash, is on AltGr+ß) I get 'ß' and instead of '€' (euro-sign, is on AltGr+e) I get 'e'.
